What is a computer virus, trojan or adware?
A virus is computer program whose purpose is to propagate itself by traveling from file to file and from computer to computer, often destroying files in the process. Computer viruses spread by several means, including floppy and zip disks, e-mail attachments, web pages, and file-sharing. The best way to prevent viruses from infecting your computer files is to ensure that you have adequate virus-protection software installed on your computer.
A trojan is a computer program whose purpose is to leave the infected computer open for hackers to gain access and install software, look at personal files, or use the computer for illegal purposes. Some trojans are not as harmful as others, but if you do find a trojan on your computer please strongly consider backing up, formatting, and reinstalling Windows. Trojans usually infect computers through unpatched security holes in Windows and Internet Explorer.
Adware are computer programs that can do a wide range of things. Two of the main purposes are to collect data from your computer and report it back to the company, and to display popup windows of ads whether or not you are viewing websites at the time. These programs can get onto the computer any number of ways. The most common ways are as part of freeware programs such as file sharing programs, by displaying confusing dialog boxes on websites to confuse people into clicking Yes to install them, or through security holes in Internet Explorer while you browse websites.

How To Protect Your Computer From Viruses:
1. Do not open e-mail attachments unless you are expecting them. Be wary of messages and attachments, even from people you know, with vague subject lines and contents, such as 'Check this' or 'See these pics!!!'“i love you”.

2. Do not dowload files from risky sites, for examle risky music dowload site “limewire”, risky girl pictures or video sites, risky virus protection sites , etc.
The best way to eliminate the risky sites on your searches to use the Google based safe search site www.gogle1.com
For example, lets say you are searching “ virus protection” on www.google.com you get app. 98.400.000.000 result, But if you searh on Google based safe search site www.gogle1.com you get app. 8.280.000 results. It means that www.gogle1.com eliminates risky sites from search results.

3.
Obtain an antivirus program to more safely share disks, download files from the Internet and open e-mail attachments.

4. Please do not download cracked programs, because they could infect your computer.

5. Employ extra caution when you receive attachments that end in the commonly used extensions .doc, .exe, .com, .xls or .ppt. Never open attachments that end in .vbs or .js, since a typical user would never have a reason to open these files.

6. if your computer is already infected ,Search the Web for information regarding your specific virus by typing the name of the virus or its associated file into a search engine www.gogle1.com , followed by the word 'virus.' For example, 'Melissa virus,' 'BubbleBoy virus,' and so on.

7. Download and install any software patches or other programs that will help you eliminate the virus. Or follow any instructions you find on deleting the virus manually. Be carefull not to download from risky sites.

Types of computer viruses
There are currently four types of computer viruses, each spread in a different way.
"Macro"
These viruses are spread by sharing document files from MS-Word (version 6.0 and above) or MS-Excel (version 5.0 and above). Macro viruses are a frequent cause of virus infections, and they can infect both PCs and Macintosh computers. After your computer is infected with a macro virus, any Word or Excel document you create or open may also contain the virus.
"Boot Sector"
These viruses are spread by sharing diskettes between different computers. Any diskette can spread a boot sector virus --even if it is not a bootable system diskette. If you share files by sharing diskettes, you can spread a boot sector virus to other computers, which then can infect other diskettes.
"Program"
These viruses are spread by sharing program files. Because most users share programs less frequently than they share data or document files, this type of virus is less common than others. A program virus can infect other programs and damage data files on your computer.
"Email" or "Hoax"
These viruses are not really virus programs at all. They are email messages sent by well-meaning people to warn others about a new virus
